MH&LA Update – September 9, 2014

MH&LA INVOLVED ON REVISIONS TO STATE REGULATIONS ON HOTEL POOLS AND SPAS Per a request from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, MH&LA is providing industry input as the Department considers a wide range of possible revisions to these regulations. Other groups involved in this process, in addition to MH&LA, include local health departments and code officials. LAST CALL FOR MONTGOMERY COUNTY REGIONAL MEETING This free one hour event on September 11 provides networking opportunities and updates on current/ emerging industry issues for Montgomery County General Managers, their senior-level staff, and Allied Members. GOVERNOR SIGNS PETITION SUPPORTING POST LABOR DAY SCHOOL START This action is a huge boost to ongoing efforts to secure a minimum of 10,000 signatures prior to the start of the next General Assembly session in January 2015. It complements the launch of new rapid response media strategy as part of a comprehensive advocacy campaign (see next article). MH&LA RESPONDS TO NEGATIVE POST LABOR SCHOOL START EDITORIALS As part of a new rapid response strategy, MH&LA responded quickly and aggressively to recent negative editorials on a post Labor Day start for Maryland public schools. MH&LA sent Letters to the Editor in response to negative editorials in The Baltimore Sun and The Republican in Western Maryland.
