MH&LA Update – November 4, 2014

LOCAL BAN THE BOX ORDINANCES UPDATE
Montgomery County employers are now banned from asking persons to disclose a criminal record on job applications and are also banned from asking about criminal history until a conditional job offer has been made. Ban the box is in place in Baltimore City and is close to being enacted in Prince George's County.

NAACP CONVENTION IS COMING TO BALTIMORE BUT NOT IN 2016
Earlier reports that the convention would be in Baltimore in 2016 were premature. Given the very limited number of available dates in 2016 and unresolved questions on Baltimore hosting Major League Baseball's 2016 All Star game, the NAACP decided to hold their annual convention in Baltimore in 2017.

REMINDER -- POST LABOR DAY SCHOOL START PETITION IS AVAILABLE ONLINE
To access the online version of the petition to affirm public support for a post Labor Day school start for Maryland public schools click here. The goal of the petition drive is a minimum of 10,000 signature from across Maryland prior to the start of the next General Assembly session in January 2015.
