MH&LA Update – August 5, 2014

POST LABOR DAY SCHOOL START UPDATE State Comptroller Peter Franchot is launching a statewide petition drive to affirm public support for a post Labor Day school start in Maryland. The launch is August 14 in Ocean City. Per the Comptroller's request, MH&LA will attend the event and will provide more details on the drive as they are available. TAXI CABS AND CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS UPDATE Taxi cabs in Baltimore City and in Baltimore County will be required to install new meters by the end of this year to allow customers to pay with debit and credit cards. The new meters will also be required to print out receipts through a rear-seat payment center. 2016 NAACP CONVENTION IN BALTIMORE IS NOT FOR SURE Contrary to previous reports, the NAACP 's 2016 annual national convention may not be held in Baltimore. The uncertainty is the result of continuing efforts to have Baltimore selected as the site for Major League Baseball's 2016 All Star Game, the date for which may conflict with the convention.
