STATE THREATENS COUNTIES WITH FINES OVER RAIN TAX FEES
Carroll, Harford and Frederick Counties may be fined for not imposing a local rain tax fee, repealing previously approved fees or imposing a minimal fee. The state maintains state law requires a fee and funding storm water mitigation from existing tax revenue, bonds or grants does not comply with the law.

STATE SENATOR JOHN ASTLE RECOGNIZED FOR SUPPORT OF TOURISM
Senator Astle received the Leadership Award from the Maryland Office of Tourism Development for his role in creating and enacting a performance-based metric to determine funding for the Maryland Tourism Development Board and for his long time and ongoing support of tourism in the General Assembly.

POST LABOR DAY SCHOOL START UPDATE
At the most recent meeting of the State Task Force to Study a Post Labor Day School Start Date, MH&LA staff presented information on the positive impact of a post Labor Day School start on student test scores in Virginia and the positive impact on local/state economies in Maryland.
