Planning Board Reviews Zoning Text Amendment for Short-Term Residential Rentals and Transmits Recommendations to County Council

The Montgomery County Planning Department presented a zoning text amendment (ZTA 16-03) to regulate online-advertised, short-term home rentals, such as Airbnb, Flipkey, HomeAway and VRBO, to the Planning Board on May 11, 2017. The Planning Board reviewed the proposed ZTA and made recommendations including licensing and limits on rental stays. READ MORE

Governor Hogan Vetoes Paid Sick Leave Bill

On May 25, Governor Hogan vetoed the paid sick leave bill passed by the Maryland General Assembly in April.  The Governor also issued three related Executive Orders. Click the following links to learn more about the Governor’s actions  and what to expect next.

Registration for the 2017 MHLA Annual Golf Tournament is now open! Join your friends and industry colleagues out on the course for a great day of contests, prizes and networking.

A portion of the proceeds raised from the MHLA Golf Tournament are donated to the Maryland Tourism Education Foundation. This year we awarded three MHLA Member hotel employees each a $1,500 scholarship to help with education costs as they are advancing their careers in our industry. You can be a part of increasing funds for the future by supporting this event.

The Blue Campaign is the unified voice for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) efforts to combat human trafficking. Human trafficking is one of our country’s largest growing – and most heinous- crimes. Hotel at Melford Expected to be finished next summer

The first of three Marriott hotels slated to be part of the Melford complex should be completed sometime next summer, officials say. Construction crews have been at work on the first hotel for the last three months and are getting ready to pour the slab for a 144-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The five-story hotel, which will be located at 16800 Science Drive, will feature a brick façade, several conference and meeting rooms and a ground-floor restaurant. READ MORE 

Neema Hospitality Supports Brain Cancer Research with 4th Annual Summer Charity Promotion

This summer, Neema Hosptiality will donate $5 per night at its nine hotel properties in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland to Support ABC2 (Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure), a non-profit research organization. BethAnn Telford is the inspiration behind the summer charity promotion. Telford is a brain tumor survivor, Ironman World Champion triathlete, World Marathon Challenge finisher and childhood friend of Sandeep Thakrar, President of Neema Hospitality. READ MORE
