LOCAL MINIMUM WAGE UPDATE — PART ONE
A Prince George’s County Council Committee has approved a bill to raise the local minimum wage in the County to $11.50 an hour by July 2015. Next up is a public hearing on a date to be determined. MH&LA opposed the bill at a Council Work Session and will do the same at the public hearing.

The Montgomery County Council has held a public hearing on a companion bill to raise the local minimum wage in the County to $11.50 an hour by July 2015. Next up is a Council Work Session on November 21. MH&LA opposed the bill at the public hearing and will do the same at the Work Session.
MH&LA TO PURSUE CHANGES IN HOTEL SWIMMING POOL LIFEGUARD MANDATES
MH&LA is meeting with staff at the Anne Arundel County Health Department to explore possible changes to county requirements for lifeguards at hotel swimming pools. MH&LA will also pursue changes to similar mandates in Baltimore City and the other counties in Maryland that have them.
BILL INTRODUCED TO REDUCE RAIN TAX FEE IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY
The bill reduces the fee to $1 a year. A public hearing on it is set for November 18. Earlier this year Frederick County Commissioners adopted a $1 a year fee and Carroll County Commissioners voted not to impose any fee but chose to fund storm water mitigation efforts from existing revenues.
