POST LABOR DAY SCHOOL START UPDATE
MH&LA has been invited to make a presentation on the impacts of a post Labor Day School start at the November 12 meeting of the State Task Force to Study a Post Labor Day School Start Date. MH&LA’s remarks will focus on the impact on student test scores and the economy.

LOCAL MINIMUM WAGE UPDATE
The Prince George’s County Council has scheduled a public hearing on a bill to raise the local minimum wage in the County to $11.50 an hour by July 2015. The hearing is Tuesday, November 19th at 10:00 AM. MH&LA opposed the bill at a Council Work Session and will do the same at the public hearing.

BALTIMORE CITY SAYS NO ON SALE OF THE HILTON BALTIMORE
The decision is based on a recently released consultant’s report which noted the property’s finances are “markedly improving” and which projects increased income over the next five years. Baltimore City officials hope to turn a profit on the $300 million project within a decade.

DELAWARE TO LAUNCH FULL INTERNET GAMBLING
On November 8 anyone registered and physically in Delaware will be able to play blackjack, poker, roulette and slots on the internet. State officials say the change is driven by decreasing gambling revenues due to competition from neighboring states and a need to attract younger gambling patrons.
