SAVE THE DATES FOR AH&LA’S LEGISLATIVE ACTION SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON
AH&LA’s Legislative Action Summit will be held in Washington DC on April 23-24. Highlights include appearances from key Washington policymakers, a CEO panel, informative sessions,  grassroots meetings with members of Congress and an evening reception on Capitol Hill. More details to follow.

J.W. “BILL” MARRIOTT TO BE HONORED BY AH&LA
J. W. “Bill” Marriott, Jr., executive chairman and chairman of the board of Marriott International, Inc. will be honored by AH&LA at the 2013 Legislative Action Summit for his work in developing relationships with Presidents and members of Congress  to highlight the positive impact of the lodging and travel industry.

ROOM RATES PREDICTED TO DRIVE HOTEL REVENUE IN 2013
TravelClick predicts a steady increase in key hotel metrics in 2013 as average daily rates continue to push growth in revenue per available room. They projects committed-occupancy growth of 2% in 2013, while rates and revPAR are expected to rise 4.9% and 4.1%, respectively.

THANK YOU TOURISM DAY IN ANNAPOLIS ATTENDEES
Almost 200 lodging, travel and tourism professionals from across Maryland participated in Tourism Day in Annapolis last Friday. Following grassroots meetings with legislators, Tourism Day attendees heard from a wide range key decision makers on the great value of travel and tourism in Maryland (see recap below).

SENATE AND HOUSE LEADERSHIP SPEAKERS AT TOURISM DAY
Senate speakers included President Mike Miller, Majority Leader Rob Garagiola, Budget and Taxation Committee Chair Ed Kasemeyer, Finance Committee Chair Thomas Middleton, Finance Committee Vice Chair John Astle and Minority Leader E.J. Pipkin, State House Leaders included Appropriations Committee Chair Norman Conway.

STATE TOURISM LEADERSHIP SPEAKERS AT TOURISM DAY
Sharing the podium with legislators at Tourism Day and helping to affirm that funding tourism promotion is a good investment for Maryland were Dominick Murray Secretary of the Department of Business and Economic Development and Greg Shockley, Chair of the Maryland Tourism Development Board.

MH&LA LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE MEETS WEEKLY DURING SESSION
The MH&LA Legislative Committee continues to meet via conference call every Monday to  get Maryland General Assembly session updates  and approve positions on industry related  legislation. To date over 2200 bills have been introduced in the State Senate and State House of Delegates.
