Maryland Hoteliers and Hotel Receive National Recognition

Sharon Bear, General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott — Hagerstown has been selected as 2012 Courtyard General Manager of the Year by Marriott International.

This award is presented to a Hotel General Manager who shows significant achievement in overall hotel leadership, team building and team development, financial management, sales leadership, service leadership and community service.

Jeff Garland, Director of Sales for the SpringHill Suites in Hagerstown has been honored as the 2012 Direct Sales Leader of the Year for the SpringHill Suites brand by Marriott International.

This award is based on achieving excellence in focusing on the customer, developing and managing others, internal sales, leading a team, fostering teamwork and relationships, the hotels sales performance, total rooms revenue, and by consistently exceeding sales goals.

The Courtyard by Marriott — Hagerstown has also been designated as a Diamond Circle Hotel. Receiving this designation is based on being in the top 5% in overall guest satisfaction, achieving a Green score on the Marriott Brand Standard Audit and meeting challenging revenue goals.



The Maryland Hotel & Lodging Association (MH&LA) preserves and promotes the interests of the lodging industry in Maryland. MH&LA members include small medium and large hotels, as well as a wide range of businesses who provide good and services to the lodging industry. On a regular basis MH&LA helps advance the word that travel and tourism provides jobs for more than 134,000 Marylanders and generates $1.6 billion in state and local taxes.
